What is your name?

Rikki Perezchica

2. Did you grow up roping?

Since I was 10 years old.

3. What made you start roping?

Met Mike Williams, known to everyone as Uncle Mike.  He was a cool guy that let this 9 year old drive his truck around the ranch, eat all of his candy without him getting mad, but most of all had a really cool blue roan, Hobby. He was clear she was a rope horse, I wanted to do what he did, especially if I got to do it in that horse.

4. How long have you been roping?

Roped my first steer off Hobby right before my 10th birthday. It was my goal to catch a steer by then.

5. What kind of roping do you do? (Team, Ranch, Breakaway, etc.)

Team rope mostly now. I am known as a heeler, I prefer that side, but recently been sharping up my heading skills. In High School I heeled and breakaway roped.  I know dabble with the breakaway roping again, hard not too with that sport booming.

6. What is your greatest accomplishment so far?

Absolutely the ACTRA Super 7 win in 2010 has been my greatest accomplishment. Best steers I roped all week happened to be in that roping. To be honest anyone who has roped behind Dusty Worsham knows he makes our job incredibly easy!

7. What are your goals for this year?

Finish a breakaway horse this year to allow me to be more successful as I become more serious about that sport.  I also hope to get a big win heading for Mike Williams this year.

8. Tell me about your horse(s)?

Right now my number one is Willard. A gelding Mike owns that I get lucky to ride. If anyone owns a horse out of Charlie Hagens old stud Bucky, you know exactly how cool of a horse he is, we are lucky enough to own two.

Button is another horse I raised out of Bucky. She is special because her mom was special to me. Everything big I ever won from high school until she was retired was on her mom, Shady.  We retired Shady a couple years ago. My wife Kellie is now learning to rope off Button with also makes her a priceless horse to me.

Bourbon is another mare we raised, she is out of my moms mare Annie. Annie has many fans and her daughter Bourbon is growing her own legacy.  She is by far the prettiest of the group with the gorgeous all natural long main (lots of upkeep, do not recommend wishing for a long mane LOL)  She is intense, all business and a winner! She also babysits my boys when they want to ride.

Our horses are not great at anything but they all are good at everything we ask them to do.

9. What do you do outside of roping?

I am an Administrator for a retirement community in the small city of Hughson. Been at the same job for 18 years and love it!! Kellie and I have been together 20 years and we have two boys Michael and Alexander, or Big Al as Michael calls him.

10. Lastly, if you could give a beginner one piece of advice, what would it be?

Enjoy it!!! Will absolutely lose more than you win, must have fun and enjoy it first!   It’s all about the journey not the destination when you  get started.
